When you own a dog, it’s pretty much compulsory that you find some of the best walking spots near to where you live, but it’s also nice just to find places where you can get some space, take a breath and have some time to think. I wanted to start a series on my blog which took you through some of my favourite places to walk, primarily in Yorkshire because, in case you didn’t know, Yorkshire is one of THE most gorgeous locations in England. Fact.
It felt only fitting to start my new series off with a walk that I’ve been doing since I was a child, Norland Moor. Just off from Sowerby Bridge in West Yorkshire, you know you’re in the middle of Norland Moor when you’re knee deep in purple heather (which, back in the day, our Bassett Hound would always get lost in).
What makes the place so lovely to walk around is the stunning views you get around you. There’s perfectly placed benches across the Moor which give you a chance to take in the views and with it all being so open, you’re not limited to the amount of Insta worthy shots you can take. When the natural light is so good, it’s a waste not to use it, right?
Norland itself is a gorgeous little village, filled with a number of pubs such as The Moorcock Inn and an annual Scarecrow Festival which takes place around the first weekend of September – Super cute and a good excuse to do a bit of a pub crawl (Obviously, not when you’re seven but at 22 you can never turn down the opportunity).
With the seasons changing, this is the perfect time to pay a visit to Norland. The heather truly comes to life with it’s bright purple making it almost too pretty to walk through and, although it’s always a bit chiller up there, wrap up in your favourite scarf, fluffiest jumper and get lost in your own world – It’s too pretty not to.
I’ll *hopefully* keep this series going over the next year, visiting my favourite spots in Yorkshire (and possibly beyond, if I feel adventurous) throughout all the seasons, giving you an idea of where to go if you feel the need to whack on your walking boots and get away from it all.
Thank you so much for reading, make sure you follow me on Twitter & Instagram to stay up to date!
